In the UK they are all window cleaners, or general cleaners, or on the dole feigning illness. There were a few that had a reasoanable job but they were few and far between and were viewed with suspicion for having a 'haughty lifestyle' which basically means that people envied them.

I love these 419's (the Nigerian law code used to ban these as most come from Nigeria). There are loads of sites where people have played these guys. I am stunned that there are still people gullible enough to fall for it

California Supreme Court and Religious Freedom
by Yerusalyim in.
monday the california supreme court ruled that private religious charities with employees must offer birth control along with their medical prescription benefits, even though doing so violates religious principle.
comments on free exercise?

It would be the same as making sure that the JW's medical insurance covered for blood transfusions.
Whether or not you support the action (blood transfusions or birth control) I think people should have equal rights to it - eg if I was working at Bethel and had an accident and got taken to hospital I may decide to live rather than die and have a blood transfusion, whereas if the insurance didn't cover it the decision would be made for me by the society. Same with birth control, most Catholics do use birth control and exercise their right to choose.
So I think it is ensuring freedom rather than restricting it - ensuring the freedom of the individual to choose whether or not to follow their organisations rules to the letter or not.

you might be an apostate if:
your dog is trained to attack Jehoovers beatniks but leaves the mail man alone
you pin a poster to your door showing a JW being eaten by a rottweiler with a sign saying 'please knock, make his day'
you haven't had your windows cleaned since you were df'd
you stay in bed til a reasonable time on a saturday and have sex rather than waking people up who are trying to enjoy their weekend
you know what's happening in the soap operas which are on a meeting night
the memorial happens and you don't have that gut wrenching dread for 3 months previous about the sheer boredom of it all
you suddenly realise that non christians are real people too
you realise that the world doesn't revolve around your opinion of what is right

I didn't spot this thread til after I posted in the other newer thread.
Polygamy was ok in the bible, as were underage marraiges. A whole gamut of situations are chronicled in the OT. That's not the point though, this debate is about how society has moved morally. People in general have put aside their bigotry against gays and have decided that they deserve equal rights. Why shouldn't it extend to marraige?
Looking at the legal arguement, in addition to all the other inconsistencies you had laws banning mixed race marraiges not so long ago. Are you really trying to say that because it was on the law books that it was right? The legal definition of marraige was one man and one woman - so long as they were the same colour, that has changed so why shouldn't it change to include same sex partners. We are not talking about legalising beastiality or paedophilia but about affording gay people equal rights under law - one nation indivisable and all that malarky.

Why does it have to be gay "marriage?"
by spiritwalker ini know this a hot topic, but i had some thinking on it i wanted to discuss.
to begin, i have nothing against a gay man or lesbian woman and consider many to be friends.
i would also like to express from the beginning in plain thought, "i think gay unions should be legal and do not see why it matters.".

Time and time again I've said this, gays have the same rights to marry as do straights...to marry an adult of the opposite gender. I take then, Satan's little helper, that you also approve of polygamy, and think the state should sanction this with marriage, or allowing a father/daughter (or son) or a brother/sister (or brother) state sanctioned marriage? Or are you a small minded left wing blow hard?
Polygamy used to be ok in bible times so why not now? If your arguement rests on the biblical definition of marraige then you cannot argue against underage marraige, polygamy, or incestuous marraiges as these all are chronicled in the OT.If your arguement rests on what has been the basis of law then look at Utah, or that divorce was illegal in Ireland til very recently oh, and drugs were totally legal til quite recently, shall we go back to that situation? It's a fatuous arguement and holds no water.
The point of this debate is that the moral compass has moved and the vast majority of people are more open minded and treasure equal rights. I have the right to marry who I love so why shouldn't gay people? All you are doing is trying to impose your morals on the rest of population, if that is the case how hard will you be able to scream if the next president decides to curb rights you hold dear?
Edited to add: What was the average age of frontier wives when the US opened up? I'll give you a clue, it was below the current age of consent.

what's so funny about that? I send Clare to the gates of the city as soon as her 'unclean time' comes each month so I am not defiled.

the dictionary definition of marraige is irrelevant, this is a matter of principle. Do you believe in equal rights for all or are you a small minded right wing bigot?
I couldn't care less who you sleep with or who you choose to commit the rest of your life to, we allow illiterate teenagers to marry each other and have the dignity of the legal framework that gives so why shouldn't gay people be given the same respect?
It REALLY pisses me off that so many so called Christians are so bloody minded and judgemental when Jesus was anything but. Know this, if god does exist he hates you for being so unchristian
